Photography comes from the greek φως
phos (light) and γραφίς
grafis that means designing or writing, so the first concept of phorography was "drawing with light". That does not mean it was created by the greek, but that the meaning of the word is taken from the greek, maybe just to sound more fancy. Photography was invented by Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1827 with a picture of the view from his window.
